ABSTRACT

In this article, the relations between environmental education and nursing practices are investigated from a study conducted in the Cohab Santa Marta and Nova Santa Marta, on the periphery of Santa Maria, RS. The research participants are 116 families living in the community and 7 nurses who worked in Floriano da Rocha Health Basic Unity. The collected data were initially analyzed by the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and Q-squared Test and served as evidence for a qualitative analysis based on Bof f (2001), Matumoto (2001), Arendt (2002), Sauvé (2005) e Boer (2007), among other authors. It is verified that the nursesconceptions of human being, health and disease are ample, but the nursing practice does not correspond to this view. As to the conditions of the community, the results point to the necessity of increasing the integrated and intersectional projects directed toward educational actions along with the Municipal Secretary of Health and Environment, as alternatives of solution to the social and environmental problems of that neighborhood. These aspects are necessary and urgent for the attention to the basic and integral health needs of the population.
